Nathan ‘Talladega Nate’ Mares
Nathan Mares has 20 years of coaching experience, with 15 of those in roller derby for many different organizations.
Talladega Nate has been working with FoCo Junior Roller Derby for 10 years. For the past 6 years, he has served as President of the Board of Directors and Head Coach. Since joining the organization, he has been instrumental in creating opportunities leading to the many successes of the league.
Nate is a Northern Colorado Native. He has two wonderful children, one of which has played roller derby for 15 years, 5 of those with FoCo Junior Roller Derby before she aged out in 2020. He has coached peewee football and little league baseball. He loves all sports and especially enjoys how they bring the best out of oneself and unite others as a team. In his spare time, he likes to ski/snowboard, ride bikes, camp, hike, be outdoors, and do CrossFit. He is an ichthyophile, owning many aquaria filled with fish, and likes to fly fish. A world traveler, he has visited France, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, Canada, Netherlands, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico.
Nate is a civil engineer with a 30-year history of design and management of complex, multimillion-dollar projects which include building and designing bridges, roadways, drainage and river systems.
